1. Mr. Moses Sentalo, ACP, Officer in Charge, U.G. Prison Upper is appointed Service Assistant Public Relations Officer. He remains Officer in Charge, U. G. Prison Upper.
2. Mr. Joel Kiggundu, SSP, who proceeded on leave vide Service Order Part II No.6/2020 of 26th June 2020, the leave is cancelled. He remains DPC Luwero.
The Commissioner General of Prisons, Dr Johnson Byabashaija visited Uganda Government Prison Moroto on an inspection tour of the facility following the escape of 223 prisoners last week.
The Ministry of Health through the Permanent Secretary Dr. Diana Atwine handed over 4 genexpert machines to the Commissioner General of Prisons, Can. Dr. Johnson Byabashaija to increase the diagnostic capacity in Prisons and reduce turnaround time for samples taken for TB from inmates and staff.
Today morning Commissioner General of Prisons, Can. Dr. Johnson Byabashaija received items donated to Uganda Prisons Service in Support of the COVID-19 Response in Prisons by the Joint Global Initiative on the Management of Violent Extremist Prisoners and The Prevention of Radicalization to violence in Prisons. Sponsored by European Union and United Nations office on Drugs and Crime(UNODC) at the Luzira parade grounds.

APPOINTMENTS, TRANSFERS, AND LEAVE OF OFFICERS
H.E the President of Uganda, on 22nd of April 2020 pardoned 833 prisoners’ country wide through the Prerogative of Mercy as a measure against the spread of COVID-19 (Corona virus) by decongesting the prison facilities.
Under Article 121 of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda, there shall be an Advisory Committee on the Prerogative of Mercy.
The Commissioner General of Prisons, Can. Dr. Johnson Byabashaija and current Secretary of African Correctional Services Association (ACSA) was a panelist on the Africa CDC- ICRC joint Webinar on COVID-19 in Detention Centres: discussing issues on Governance and Leadership for Health care in places of detention, Health Information Systems in Detention places and Health care delivery :- prevention steps and clinical management.
His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda has renewed the contracts of the Commissioner General of Prisons, Can. Dr. Johnson Byabashaija and the Deputy Commissioner General of Prisons, James Mwanje.
