Soccer and Netball Tournaments

The Uganda Prisons Service (UPS) has been holding a soccer and netball tournaments for staff in a bid to foster interaction between the staff and for recreation. The tournament has run since 2005 to December 2010. The tournament attracted 8 teams in groups of 4 including staff from Kampala Extra Region prisons and the Prisons Headquarters.

The climax of this tournament was the final match held on Wednesday 13th January 2011 between Kampala Remand Prison and the Prisons Training School (PTS) and award giving function to the winners in the various categories of participation, which were held at the Maroons Stadium in Luzira. The ceremony was officiated by the Commissioner General of Prisons, Dr. J.O.R. Byabashaija.

Before the final match was played, there were two curtain raising matches to crown the occasion; the first was between the uniformed women staff and the wives of the male uniformed staff, for which the uniformed female staff won with 1-0 score.

The second match was between the UPS staff from the Headquarters and the Kampala Extra region for which they drew with 2-2 score.

The final match between Kampala Remand Prison and the Prisons Training School (PTS) ended with a 2-0 score in favour of Kampala Remand Prison.

Thereafter, the CGP gave the winners there trophies.
