The administration of the Uganda Prisons Service obtains monthly reports from all prison stations around the country and makes reports of the statistics. We have provided information of the summaries for the recent months in this website. The submissions from the former LAP and central was100%.
Considering the former LAPs, prisoners on remand made up the majority (58.3%) absolute value of 4997 followed by convicted prisoners (41.2%) absolute value of 3532 prisoners and debtors (0.5%) absolute value of 46 debtors.
In general therefore, from both central and former LAPs, the remand prisoners made up the majority (54%) absolute value of 15304 prisoners of which, 98.9% absolute value of 15135 were males and 4.1% were female absolute value of 627 followed by convicts (44%) absolute value of 12443 prisoners of which 96.6% were male convicts absolute value of 12017 and female convicts (3.4%) absolute value of 426, the minority were Debtors (0.5%) absolute value of 132 giving an overall total of 28337 reported prisoners in the whole country.
Overall male prisoners are 95.8 % absolute 27152 and females are 3.7% absolute 1053 and debtors are 0.5% absolute 132.
