Inmates excel in national vocational exams

Results of the national vocational tradetesting released by the Directorate of Industrial Training show an impressive performance by the men and women behind the walls. Out of 42 presented, 28 passed and qualified for certificates.

As part of the department’s obligation to contribute to the realization of the millennium development goals, vocational training of inmates is highly accentuated in the Strategic Investment Plan 2 and will continue to get attention.

Lack of skills from which to earn an honest living partly explains the reason behind involvement in criminal activities by a great many youth. With the acquisition of vocational skills by inmates , relapse into crime is reduced.

Plans to tool the inmates through linking them to service provided are underway as part of their resettlement package so that upon release; they will live life as law abiding citizens.
