INTERNAL AFFAIRS MINISTER TOURS FARMS IN WESTERN UGANDA

The Minister of Internal Affairs, General Jeje Odongo last week 19 - 23 February, 2018 toured the prisons’ of Fortportal, Ibuga, Ruimi and Mubuku in western Uganda. The Minister was accompanied by the Minister of State Internal Affairs, Hon. Obiga Kania, Permanent Secretary Internal Affairs, Dr. Ben Mutambi, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Public Service, Mrs Catherine B. Musingwiire, Members of the Prisons Authority and Prisons Top Management.

 

The tour was part of the Prisons Authority Retreat chaired by the Minister of Internal Affairs whose aim this year was to deliberate on the Strategic Investment Plan IV of Uganda Prisons Service with main focus on the Transformation of UPS from a Penal institution to a Productive and Correctional Institution and Building Production Systems to achieve extensive farming through mechanization of farming systems.

 

General Jeje Odongo was positively impressed with the service through its Maize Seed production project which has significantly helped Ugandan farmers’ access good quality seeds for planting.

 

The Permanent Secretary Public Service acknowledged the good work being done by the service through the rehabilitation of inmates and noted that prisons was building on its resilience towards food sustainability for the inmate population and Uganda in general through Maize Seed production to National Agricultural Advisory Services.
