Introduction
The Uganda Prisons Service started in 1896, as a branch of the Kings African Rifle. In 1903, a section of Uganda Prisons Service was established as an independent Department from the Kings African Rifle run by the Uganda Police, but the training was done by soldiers of Kings African Rifle.

In 1907, the Prisons Training School was established in Luzira (known as DEPOT), and was run by soldiers of the Kings African Rifles as instructors, who continued to run the School till 26th April, 1950, when the school was officially opened by HE Sir, John Harthon, the then Governor and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces.

In 1917, an order of Council established an independent Prisons Department from Protectorate Police. However, till 1938, the police and prisons had a joint command. ...more

Soccer & Netball tournaments
The Uganda Prisons Service (UPS) has been holding a soccer and netball tournaments for staff in a bid to foster interaction between the staff and for recreation. The tournament has run since 2005 to December 2010. The tournament attracted 8 teams in groups of 4 including staff from Kampala Extra Region prisons and the Prisons Headquarters.   Click here for more.
